What Happens If Car Battery Is Overcharged?
Overcharging a battery results in excessive gassing. Gas accumulation in sealed batteries will probably cause an explosion.
You should be aware of the warning signs below
- Hot Battery: After 30 minutes of resting your vehicle, the car battery which is still being too heated to touch may be overcharged.
- Bent or Curved Battery Sides: Overproduction inside your battery can cause swelling. Therefore you might notice the sides of your battery are curved.
- Acid-like Smell: When the heat of an overcharged battery boils off acid, you might notice an odd acid-like odor coming from beneath the hood.
- Lowering Battery Fluid Level: If your battery is not sealed and the fluid level seems to be lowering more frequently than it should, it may be overcharged.
